Job Summary
RHT Africa is seeking a dedicated Community Engagement Officer to foster strong relationships between our organization and the communities we serve. The ideal candidate will have a background in community development, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of local cultures and social dynamics.
Key Responsibilities
Community Outreach and Relations
- Develop and implement community engagement strategies and plans.
- Act as the primary liaison between RHT Africa and community stakeholders.
- Organize and facilitate meetings, workshops, and events to promote project awareness.
Stakeholder Communication
- Maintain open and effective communication channels with community leaders, local authorities, NGOs, and residents.
- Address community concerns and feedback, ensuring they are considered in project planning and execution.
Program Development
- Identify community needs and opportunities for collaboration.
- Develop initiatives and programs that support community development and align with RHT Africa’s mission.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Collect data and monitor the impact of community engagement activities.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Cultural Sensitivity and Compliance
- Ensure all engagement activities are culturally appropriate and comply with local regulations.
- Advocate for inclusive practices that respect diversity and promote equity.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Communications, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience in community engagement, social work, or related roles.
- Experience working with diverse communities in urban settings.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
- Fluency in English and French; knowledge of local languages is a plus.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy and tact.
Other Requirements
- Familiarity with social media and digital communication tools.
- Willingness to travel within project areas.
